Anatole

Anatole began his career at the turn of the 2010s, forming the group Mauves, an outfit that participated actively in the creation of what we now refer to as the ‘Quebec scene’. In 2015, he undertook his solo project, Anatole, with the intention of redefining the meaning of a music show in Quebec, where one only found bands in jeans and t-shirts, unaware of the creative utility of the stage. Assumed theatricality, costumes, stage production, queerness before its time, posture of a singer unleashed - it goes without saying that he is an exemplar of all that we see on stages today.

These days, in addition to playing with his ‘band de papas’ Apophis, Alexandre Martel is more recognized for his work as a producer: since the triumph of Darlène, an album that he produced with Hubert Lenoir, he has made a string of records that critics and the public have adopted effortlessly. We find him most notably behind the successes of Sweet Montérégie by Alex Burger, Cantalou by Thierry Larose, A.M.I.E.S.A.M.O.U.R by Lumière, Lou-Adriane Cassidy vous dit: Bonsoir by the singer of the same name, and Sans oublier by Lysandre. He can also be found on stage with Larose and Cassidy, in addition to having been Lenoir's brother in arms during the two years of the Darlène tour - a collaboration that goes back to the years of the band The Seasons, who he also accompanied on stage.

He returned in the autumn of 2022 with a third album entitled Alexandre Martel. If the title of the record plays with the tradition of the homonymous album, it is because everything is now in its simplest form for Anatole. No name for the album, no names for the songs, no story other than that of his alter ego, Alexandre. From irresistible songs perfumed with the folk-rock revival of the early 90's, to those vaguely reminiscent of the Lennon of the 70s, with their enveloping vocal harmonies and the kind of harmonized guitar solos we no longer hear often enough, the artist takes us with him in an impromptu and captivating heart to heart.

When he is not in the studio or in a van somewhere in Quebec, Alexandre enjoys watching Top chef France, reading about early 20th century esotericism, playing Mario Party with his daughter and watching a silent movie while under the influence.
